Dr. Vaida Survilienė, currently a Junior Research Fellow at the Life Sciences Center of Vilnius University, has been dedicated to the study of grey seal behavior since 2008. Despite being born, raised, and educated in Vilnius, South of Lithuania, her passion for marine mammals led her to choose them as the focus of her Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD theses. During her studies, Vaida also interned at the Island Wildlife Natural Care Centre in Canada and applied the knowledge gained there to help rehabilitate grey seals at the Lithuanian Sea Museum in Klaipėda. From 2014, she successfully coordinated several projects addressing conflicts between grey seals and fisheries in Lithuania. Currently, Vaida's research focuses on the social development and endocrinology of grey seal pups, and she collaborates with institutions such as the Sea Mammal Research Unit in the UK, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Estonian research company "Pro Mare," and others.
